news & gossip

Well here we go with the December issue of Rapture, and we really have a ‘belter’ for you this month!

Christmas is normally the time where you get to wear some silly hats, stuff yourself full of turkey until you explode and sit in with the in-laws and watch the Queens Speech. But don’t forget to go and enjoy some of the huge amounts of activities and special events that are on this month! And if you are looking for something really special for New Years Eve take a look at page 18!

We must say a quick thanks to "Spirit FM" . We hinted last issue that you may be hearing our dulcet tones over the radio, and on Friday 14th November Rapture gave a live interview. If you heard us we hope you found it interesting and informative, if you didn’t, well keep your ears open in the future as you never know where we will pop up again.

Scorpion Guitars are featuring in this December issue and we couldn’t help ourselves but order a couple of custom built ‘Rapture’ guitars. Over the next few months we will be giving you updates on the progress of the ‘Rapture beauties’ and we have one or two special things planned with them at the end!

Keep your eyes out for our Christmas selection hats In the printed magazine, We have placed these by any events that have a particular Christmas flavour to them, just to maker it easier for you to enjoy the festive spirit.

Well that’s it from us for this month and we hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Chichester

Rox Music & Arts have announced the line up for their next gig at the Venue of Saturday 20th December. Debbie Bonham and her band will be headlining the second fund-raising evening, the first of which attracted over 400 music lovers from around the area.

Urban Swallow will be making a welcome return to the local gig scene and are sure to pull in their loyal followers. Also on the bill are Britonica (aka Tonic) adding their infectious blend of melodic rock and humour and are sure to be a crowd pleaser. Fellow Chichester band Oversol will also be making an appearance in the City following successful forays into London at the Camden Barfly.

Harvey Bailey and an impressive line up of DJ’s will also be pumping out some great sounds in the Reform Room.

Tickets are priced at £5.00 in advance and £6.00 on the door (NUS £4/£5) and tickets will be soon available from Woods in the Arcade at Bognor Regis and VIP Vinyl’s in Westgate Chichester.

Advance ticket purchases are advisable as this will be a popular pre-Christmas event, in fact, Rox Organisers think it’s a great alternative to the traditional Company Christmas bash!

Update on the Christmas Exhibition 2003

Runs until the 24th December
The Old Bakehouse Gallery
Main Road
Fishbourne

Last issue we mentioned that the Old Bakehouse Gallery where having a Christmas Exhibition. Well Rapture went along to take a look round. Running into its third week, the huge gallery split into five areas was full of an amazing array of totally unique exhibits and gift ideas from all over Britain. (The teapots being our favourite piece!)

The atmosphere was very relaxed, and unusually for exhibitions that are selling the pieces shown, very unpressurised, the emphasis being firmly on making the exhibits stand out and giving people ideas on some of the most unusual and stunning presents that you can buy.

Beautifully handcrafted jewellery, glass, ceramics, mirrors, lamps, sculptures, garden pots and many, many more pieces are offered for your enjoyment. It is worth taking note that its well worth exploring every ‘nock & cranny’ of the Old Bakehouse Gallery as there are so many fascinating pieces it is easy to miss a few. If you get half an hour or so to spare it is well worth popping in to explore one the most interesting exhibitions available!

The Rapture Website
www.rapture.org.uk

As visitors to this website know, our main aim is to inform you of what’s going on, in and around the area. But for some time now we have been exploring ideas on building the information that is stored on the site, to expand your knowledge of everything local.

Our latest push is for music lovers. We are starting to profile local bands and their history, style of music, gig information, etc, so when you look at the music listings you will be able to get a better fell for who is playing and there style of music. To do this we need your help. Do you know one of the local bands? Are you a member of one of the local groups.

If so send us your information. The type of information we are after will shortly be added to the website but we want to know all about how the group got started, style of music played, best and worst gig stories. What we are hoping to do is dedicate a page to each band in the area. Not only is this useful for the followers of local music but also to venues that would like to book different bands from around the area.

So send us your information to : editorial@rapture.org.uk
or phone 01243 826778 for more details.

Whispers from the Silk Road

The Silk Road Restaurant
8-10 Arcade Road
Littlehampton

We get sent a lot of reviews and information at Rapture and occasionally something will come along that just really stands out. The following is a piece that was sent to us by the Silk Road Restaurant describing their Halloween night. See what you think!

‘The Silk Road Restaurant on most days is nothing more than a beautiful Turkish/Mediterranean venue, creating freshly prepared authentic cuisine in stunning surroundings and to the gentle hum of International background music.
However, it is touched by magic at the weekends, when it suddenly transforms itself into all the above and more. Take Halloween night, for example.

In the dim candlelight sat motionless anticipation. A pin was heard to drop! A shimmering blue vision appeared unexpectedly on the staircase, the restaurant swelling to the magnificent sounds of exotic Egyptian drums.
Suddenly, he was on the marble floor, twisting and turning, this way and that - dancing as if possessed - an elegant sweat line forming on his brow. On his head, more magic! Six lit candles! How could that be? One by one, he invited us to join him. Tables moved aside and previously well behaved ladies and refined gentlemen were taken over by a mysterious disease - dancing with gay abandon!

We were all in there - no chefs in the kitchen, no-one behind the bar - it didn’t matter, they weren’t needed! Wolf whistles and howls of laughter, clapping and more than a few moist backs. The music drifted away, platters emerged from the kitchen by themselves, making their way to the Buffet Lounge - the steam rising to touch the noses of the now seated and slightly awkward well behaved ladies and refined gentlemen.

Someone opened a window. Where were we? Oh Yes, I remember, Littlehampton.

‘Littlehampton - full of surprises!’

Enough said I believe!
