The art of Ginger Gilmour

On entering Artist Ginger Gilmour's house , you could be forgiven for thinking you had been transported straight into a piece of her work.

When originally looking for a home it was with the thought of finding somewhere that would provide space for a studio so that she could create.

She woke one morning with an idea to literally sculpt the walls. The result is both staggering and breathtaking. After eighteen months of hard work she feels that she has furthered her goal to…

" create spaces and forms that give an experience of beauty".

With my cross-polarisation series I was interested in studying the effects of different colour mixes on the human state of mind. I wanted to offer invigorating and refreshing visual stimuli for people coming off the highly branded streets.

The work offers a space in which I hoped people could loose themselves in a visual dÈrive. It was part of a group exhibition ‘Mindfields’ which had the theme of psychogeography, which is the study of the effects of the geographical settings, consciously managed or not…

acting directly on the mood and behaviour of the individual

Born in Philidelphia, Ginger spent much of her childhood dreaming of Prince Charming and living happily ever after. Prince Charming arrived in the form of Dave Gilmour, lead guitarist with Pink Floyd. She spent the following years expressing herself through her marriage and her family, while observing the beauty of life. By the early ninties she felt inspired to create beauty. But how is that done.

Ginger does this by activating the imagination and letting them open themselves up to their own world of beauty. For anyone that has seen her work they'll know what this means.

Most of her work is done on impulse.

A sudden urge to create causes sleepless nights until it's completion. Her drive is spiritual, something that plays a great part in her life and shows in her stunning pieces of work , such as her sculptures of Ariel and The Gaurdian of Humanity.

She feels that her most significant piece of work to date is…

"The Song Of Woman"

It gave her an insight into her true self, and gave her the courage to show it..
