Rapture enjoyed an evening of

‘Turkish Delight’

at the Silk Road Restaurant, Littlehampton.

The first thing that strikes you when you go through the doors of The Silk Road Restaurant is the totally unique dÈcor, from the hand painted tiles to the eye catching table clothes, everything is of interest.

This is made all the more breathtaking when you discover that every piece of stitching, painting and beading was a personal labour of love by Theresa, the owner of this little oasis that you find tucked into a back street of Littlehampton.

The second is the personal welcome that is extended to every customer that venture in. Regulars are greeted with a warm hug and a peck on the cheek, like meeting a dear friend that you haven’t seen in a while. New visitors are given a big smile and a shake of the hand.

The great thing about it, is that it is a genuine sentiment on Theresa’s part.

Everyone is made to feel that they are being drawn into an experience. Whether you choose to sit at a table in the main bar area, or further back with a window seat you never feel forgotten.

The food was a gastronomic delight. I felt compelled to try dishes that I would have usually refused. For the starter I chose little parcels of filo pastry filled with feta cheese and spices:

"It was an explosion of flavours…and out of this world."

For the main course I opted for the prime fillet steak with a honey brandy and cream sauce:

"The steak was done to perfection and the sauce was a real change from the run of the mill sauces you are normally served with your steak."

Halfway through our meal the belly dancer made her first appearance of the evening. Courage (of the Dutch variety) was provided by the Turkish Pilsner that we had been supping all evening. So much so that Billy felt it was time to show us some of his moves. Demented chicken are just two of the words that spring to mind, I have actually threatened to divorce him if he ever does dances in public again.

Once we had finished our meal Theresa enticed us away from our table and round to the bar. This is where on the far wall you discover the mural. A stunning piece of artwork, it shows a Turkish bazaar which you feel drawn into. And when you finally tear your eyes away from this masterpiece it’s time for another glass of Turkish Pilsner and more belly dancing.

So if you are looking for a new experience, and a relaxed and fun night out …then this is definitely the place for you.
